Costs and decisions
How are Sub-Zero repair costs determined?
The diagnosis sets it. Fans, filters, gaskets and drains are smaller repairs; controls and sealed-system work are larger. Access and parts availability also matter. You get the options first.
Should I repair or replace my appliance?
Compare the repair with the appliance's age and overall condition. Built-in units often justify repair because replacement involves cabinetry and panels.

What signals a refrigerator is failing?
Temperatures over 40 °F, constant running, frost, sweating doors, leaks or new noises.
What signals an oven or range issue?
Burners stuck clicking or refusing to ignite, uneven or slow heating, error codes, or a gas smell (step out of the house and ring the gas company).
What signals a dishwasher issue?
Standing water, leaks, poor cleaning or drying, and error codes.
Beach-home maintenance
How does salt air affect appliances?
It corrodes condenser fins, fan motors, igniters and stainless finishes. Clean more often near the beach.
What is the single best maintenance habit?
Keeping the refrigerator condenser clean.
How often should water filters be changed?
When the indicator requests it or about every six months.

Anything to do beforehand?
Keep a path open to the unit, pull items off the bottom rear shelf, and keep pets in another room.
One visit or more?
When the repair uses a stocked part, it is usually finished the same trip; special-order parts mean coming back.
Refrigerator questions
Why is my Sub-Zero running constantly?
A dirty condenser, a door that is not sealing, a warm kitchen or a heavy load of warm food are common. If it runs constantly and stays warm, request service.
Why is there water under my crisper drawers?
Usually a clogged defrost drain at the back of the fresh-food section.
How long can food stay safe if my refrigerator stops?
About four hours with the door closed, according to USDA guidance. A full freezer holds for roughly 48 hours if unopened.
Why is my freezer frosting up?
A door or drawer that is not fully closed, a worn gasket, or a defrost fault. Thick frost on the back wall points to defrost.
Cooking and cleaning appliances
Why does my Wolf or Viking oven take longer to preheat than before?
On gas ovens, a weakening igniter; on electric, a failed element. An oven thermometer test helps.
Why are my dishes coming out cloudy?
South Bay mineral content plus an empty rinse-aid reservoir is the usual combination. Refill rinse aid and clean the filter.
Practical details
Do you work in condos and townhomes?
Yes. Many beach-city homes are multi-level townhomes, so let us know about stairs, parking and HOA access rules.
Can you look at a refrigerator in my garage?
Yes. Garage refrigerators face heat and dust, so mention the location when booking.
What if my appliance is still under warranty?
Contact the manufacturer first; warranty work goes through their network.

Ice makers
Why did my Sub-Zero ice maker stop?
Check the ice maker switch, the water filter, the supply valve, and that the freezer is near 0 °F. If all are fine, the fill tube may be frozen or the valve failed.
Why are my ice cubes small?
A slow fill. The usual culprits are an overdue filter or weak water pressure in the house.
Should I throw out the first ice after a new filter?
Yes, discard the first few batches.
